New positions, positions that become vacant, and positions that are redefined (reclassified) now must use the new IT classifications. The classification specifications can be viewed at the Human Resource Services web site under “Class Specifications”. To view salary rates, please view the Salary Ranges site.
Employees currently classified in the former IT titles, such as Computer Support Specialist, Computer Programmer-Analyst Manager, and Computer Applications Coordinator may continue to stay in these titles. Positions in the former titles will not automatically be moved into the new titles. Employees classified in the former titles remain eligible for compensation enhancements such as special pay increases and bonus pay. When IT positions become vacant, however, departments will have to reclassify these positions to one of the new IT titles. This is accomplished in PeopleSoft’s Position Management feature. See the reclassification instruction guide.
The position description form is used to describe and classify the job, and becomes part of the PeopleSoft position management record. Since these classification titles are not job specific, be sure to assign a “Working Title” that describes the specific job (such as, “Applications Programmer” or “Help Desk Manager”).
For guidelines on how to write position descriptions for Information Technology positions, please refer to the establishing positions web page.
