About Us
Melissa Curry |
Melissa is responsible for the administration of the Recruitment & Staffing team within the Office of Human Resource Services, which includes Recruitment, Processing & Records, Scanning, and Immigration Complliance Services. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from University of Iowa and has over 16 years of experience in HR, 12 of which have been with UF. Melissa has worked in various capacities - recruitment, student personnel, training, and HRIS. Prior to her recent return to Recruitment & Staffing, she worked for Enterprise Systems as an IT Expert who helped implement ePAF. |
Marjorie Belcher |
Marjorie came to Recruitment & Staffing in 2001 from a local large private company, where she served as an Administrative Professional for several years. She is responsible for fiscal aspects of advertisement, conducts pre-employment background checks, and provides assistance with administrative duties to the Director. |
John Sun |
John is responsible for overseeing the criminal background check and E-Verify process. Prior to Recruitment & Staffing, John managed the Central Leave Administration. John has been with HRS over four years. John received his bachelor’s degree in Interpersonal Communication from UCF, and he has acquired over nine years of HR experience in both public and private sectors. |

Amber McCurry-Wuertz |
Amber has served in a Recruiter capacity since 2006. She provides assistance and consultation to various departments with job postings, interviewing, and hiring. She received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Western State in Colorado with a minor in Journalism. She has over six years of experience in HR. |
Kimberly Abbott |
Kim employs more than 10 years of human resources experience with an emphasis on recruiting in both the public and private sectors. She holds a B.S. degree in Secondary Education from Jacksonville State University and has prior teaching experience at the high school and college levels. She received her Master of Public Administration degree from the University of North Florida in 2001 prior to working for The City of Pasadena. Kim handles recruitment, conducts career counseling to current UF employees, and provides training as well as other specific recruitment needs for various departments and colleges on campus. Kim is well-versed with general employment law and fair recruitment practices. |
Heather |
Heather is a UF graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications. Her responsibilities include: assisting with job postings, interviewing, and hiring as well as providing counsel on HR hiring questions/issues. Before coming to work in Human Resources at UF, she had been in the private sector in Nashville, TN, and Orlando, FL. |

Kate Burch |
Kate has been with UF for more than 15 years and possesses over 30 years of HR experience in both private and academia sectors. Prior to HRS, Kate had worked for the University Controller’s Office. Currently, she oversees staffs who handle ePAF approvals for TEAMS/USPS hires, OPS hires, job changes, terminations, lump sum payments, and deductions including Campus USA Credit Union, Living Well, union dues, and UF Debt Collections. Kate and her team update employee’s visa statuses, I-9 , and W-4’s, as well as provides records services including public record requests service audits, and personnel file review. |
Susan Farrell |
Susan came to UF more than 29 years ago and started her career with UF at the Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences. Susan is responsible for preparing files for public record requests and review. Also, she performs service audits, typically for leave cash-out purposes, when requested. Lastly, she prepares written employment verifications letters when requested. |
Jane Prox |
Jane is responsible for approving ePAFs for Lump Sum Hires, Additional Pay, and TEAMS/USPS job changes. |
Debra Brinson |
Debra started as a Program Assistant with HRS in 1999, and is now an HR Representative. She is responsible for processing OPS Hourly hires, which includes approving hire ePAF’s and entering personnel information: I-9, W-4, and Visa. Debra has been with UF for more than 14 years. |
Birdella Williams |
Birdella has been with HRS team since 1993. Through the years, she has been promoted to HR Representative role and has handled wide variety of duties within Recruitment and Staffing. Currently, she is responsible for entering W-4 changes, conducting background checks. In addition, she is responsible for entering deductions for Campus USA Credit Union, Living Well, UF Foundation. Birdella also approves OPS employees job edits and provide assistance with written employment verification requests. |
Christina Carroll |
Christina began her career in Human Resources in 2006, working in the areas of staffing and benefits for a large private company in Orlando. She received a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Central Florida. She is currently responsible for approving Faculty hires, terms and job changes.

Phillip Maggio Administrative Assistant |
Reviews and approves Graduate Assistant and Resident appointments, Hires , job edits and terminations, also reviews and maintains Graduate Assistant Letter of Appointment file. |
Patricia Cook |
Patricia has been with UF for more than fourteen years. She is responsible for salaried faculty appointments; courtesy faculty appointments; OPS faculty appointments lump-sum payments and faculty position approvals. |
Anita Kelly |
Anita has been with UF for more than five years. She is responsible for fellowship appointments; graduate assistant appointments; tuition payment processing; visa expiration reports and updating Visa status in Job Data. |
Dana Smith |
Dana is a UF Alumnus and has been working with UF for 7 years and with HRS for almost 3 years. She is responsible for reviewing and approving TEAMS/USPS hire ePAFs and ensures all appropriate personnel data is entered into the system for new hires. She also works with E-Verify. |

Yvette McKinney
|
Yvette coordinates the processes associated with the university’s sponsorship of employment-based immigration statuses and provides services to ensure regulatory compliance. Yvette has approximately 18 years of university administrative experience acquired in international affairs, human resources, academic personnel, admissions, and faculty support units. Yvette possesses a Master’s degree awarded by Georgetown University and a Bachelor’s degree earned at the University of Florida. |
Susan Studstill
|
Susie advises UF departments in all aspects of sponsorship for non-immigrant immigration statuses. She reviews and processes immigration petitions that are submitted to United States Citizens and Immigration Services, associated with acquiring and maintaining employment authorization for foreign nationals who are sponsored by UF for employment-based statuses. Susie has worked in various departments across campus and has over 20 years experience at the University of Florida. |
Shannon Pettit
|
Shannon began her career at UF as a one of the HRS Service Center Representatives in 2008 and now works for Immigration Compliance Services. She is responsible for processing H-1B visa’s and Permanent Resident status. Shannon graduated from UF with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Education. Prior to HRS, she worked for the Career Resource Center as an Employee Relations Intern. Shannon has over ten years of experience in Customer Service. |

Jeff Durant |
Jeff has been with UF for more than seven years, which includes over two years with HRS. He is responsible for staff in the Records/Imaging area. Jeff and his team are responsible for retaining faculty and staff personnel files digitally. Jeff is also responsible for approving TEAMS appointments in PeopleSoft. |
Chanra Kong |
Chanra came to HRS more than two years ago, and she supports the Records team in digitizing paper personnel records and retains electronic personnel files. |
Tonie Green |
Tonie has been with HRS since 2006, but she has been with UF for more than twenty-four years. She provides service to the Records team in retaining and maintaining electronic personnel files. |
Academic Personnel |

Janet Malphurs |
Janet monitors and evaluates the Tenure and Promotion process, Sustained Performance Evaluation process and Salary Pay Plan process for the use by the President, Provost and the Academic Personnel Board. She provides guidance and interpretation on policy, regulations and UFF Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Graduate Assistant United Agreement to college and departments. She has worked at UF since 1977 and has over 33 years of academic experience. |
