Veteran Preference


In compliance with Chapter 295, Florida Statute, The University of Florida is committed to providing preference to U.S. veterans and spouses of veterans in hiring, promotion, and retention for all qualified positions (all former University Personnel Support Services positions), as prescribed by the chapter.  Additional information concerning veteran's preference is available at the Florida Department of Veteran's Affairs webpage.

FAQs

1. How do I know what positions qualify for veterans' preference?

All positions that were formerly classified as University Personnel Support Services (USPS) qualify for vetetans' preference. This includes positions with a salary plan of TU2E. Faculty, OPS, and student positions do not qualify. For a full list of qualified positions, please view the document avaliable here:

2. The applicant claimed veterans' preference on the application, but did not provide a DD214. Does the applicant still qualify for veterans' preference?

No, the applicant must provide a copy of his or her DD214 by the closing date of the requistion to claim veterans' preference.

3. How do I know if the applicant served during an eligible wartime period?

You can verify the applicant's dates of service on his or her DD214 form.

4. Can a spouse of a veteran claim veterans' preference?

Yes, the spouse of a veteran who cannot qualify for employment becayse of a total and permanent service-connected disability, or the spouse of a veteran missing in action, captured, or forcibly detained or intemed in the line of duty by a foreign power, is eligible for veterans' preference. The unmarried widow or widower of a veteran who died of a service-connected disability is also eligible.
