Information for Retirees
The state's Division of Retirement offers a comprehensive web page for retirees.
If you are a member of the Florida Pension Plan, we recommend that you contact the University Retirement office one to two months prior to retirement to complete all necessary paperwork. At that time you may elect to convert your state health and life insurance upon retirement.
If you are a member of the Florida Investment Plan or the SUSORP and wish to convert your health and life insurance, please contact our office 1-2 months prior to your retirement.
DROP
The Deferred Retirement Option Program allows participants to accumulate their retirement benefits while continuing to work (for a maximum of 5 years). If you are a member of the Florida Pension Plan, and wish to participate in this program, you will need to contact our office 1-2 months before your normal retirement date* to complete the necessary documents. Brochure on DROP.
Leave Cash Out
Upon retiring, you are eligible for a cash out of your accumulated annual leave (maximum 352 hours for TEAMS, maximum 240 hours for USPS), as well as a quarter of your accumulated sick leave, up to 480 hours (at least 10 years of service required). Your department will initiate the transaction following your retirement date. Payments of more than $2,000 will be eligible for the Retirement Special Pay Plan, administered by Bencor Administrative Serivces.
If you have any questions about your retirement, please contact University Retirement at retirement@ufl.edu or 392-2477.
*Normal retirement date for regular class members is age 62 or 30 years of service. Contact the Bureau of Calculations for questions regarding years of service/retirement eligibility.

Gator 1 card
University of Florida retirees continue to have access to the same benefits as active university employees--all by using their Gator 1 retirement ID card.
Permanent Gator 1 ID cards enable UF retirees to use the University of Florida libraries, gymnasium, swimming pools, outdoor athletic courts, Reitz Union facilities, and RTS bus service. By presenting their cards, they also will be able to join the Living Well Employee Wellness Program, secure admission to functions restricted to University of Florida personnel, and purchase football tickets based upon established seating priority.
Upon retirement, UF employees will receive a letter from University Benefits and Retirement authorizing them to obtain a new permanent Gator 1 ID card. Retirees present this letter to the ID Card Services Office (392-8343) located at the Welcome Center next to the Reitz Union and UF Bookstore. Office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please bring the following materials to the ID Card Services Office: cash, check, or ATM Honor card; a picture ID; and a copy of the letter issued by University Retirement.
