Instructors from New Horizons provide computer course training. For all-day sessions, please plan for a one-hour break for lunch on your own.

GET198 Cyber Safeguards for UF Restricted Data

UF is obligated to protect private data. Failure to protect private data impacts UF liability, reputation, and costs. This introductory course will explain the do’s and don’ts of using private data on computers. Attendees will learn when to use encryption. Proper methods for disposal of private data will be taught as well as what to do in the event of a private data exposure. Important contacts regarding private data will be presented, and technical resources for data protection will be discussed.

GET199 Cyber Self-Defense

This session is designed to raise awareness of faculty and staff on topics including safe Web browsing, principle of least privilege, encrypting and backing up files, e-mail safety, and wireless security. The class is very interactive with discussion topics that get the participants thinking about how to protect their personal and work computers both at home and the office.
