O-1A nonimmigrant status, for temporary workers who possess extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, business or education, is sponsored by the University of Florida to employ foreign nationals faculty or researchers. The status is available to individuals who receive an offer of employment and have the credentials to qualify for the applicable academic positions. The Human Resource Services’s Immigration Compliance Services section provides guidance to hiring departments/centers during the petition preparation process and the sponsorship period. The O-1 nonimmigrant classifications associated with UF sponsorship are:
- O-1A: individuals with an extraordinary ability in the sciences, education, business; and
- O-3: individuals who are the spouse or children of O-1 beneficiaries
The USCIS website provides an overview of the O-1 visa.
