An Opportunity to Come Together

A message from Dr. David W. Parrott, Vice President for Student Affairs:

Dear Students,

I struggle to find words in the wake of the incredible tragedies witnessed in Ohio, Tulsa and Charlotte in the past week. It is incomprehensible that violence against Black people across the nation continues.

My hope is that these tragedies do not go unnoticed, and that our entire community openly engages in respectful and supportive dialogue about the shootings and tensions in our country.

On Friday, Sept. 23, at noon, I encourage all students to stand together and participate in the Enough is Enough Peaceful Demonstration to be held in Turlington Plaza. The event is hosted by Multicultural and Diversity Affairs and Black Affairs. Help these tragedies become more than a hashtag, but positive action.

Talk to your friends, family, faculty and the UF staff. Please reach out if you are in need of support.

Let us not give up caring for one another and help build better, safer and more inclusive communities for all.
