Campus safety this weekend
Dear UF faculty and staff,
As the weekend approaches, we are sharpening our efforts to enhance the safety of campus and well-being of the greater university community.
The University Police Department and local law enforcement continue to search for the individual believed to be responsible for assaulting three women on and near campus in recent weeks and to help minimize the danger to the UF community, particularly after dark.
If you are on campus this weekend for academic, research or business reasons or join the 90,000 or so Gator fans in The Swamp on Saturday for the UF-Kentucky football game, here are some tips to keep in mind:
Please remain alert and aware of your surroundings at all times.
Avoid walking alone and stay in well-lighted areas, away from alleys, bushes and entryways.
Yell or otherwise call attention to yourself if you feel threatened, and call 9-1-1 to report any suspicious activity.
Safety measures, tips and investigation updates are posted regularly at www.ufl.edu. Also, a rumor hotline has been established at 1-866-UF-FACTS.
Remember, Gators take care of each other. Stick together and reach out to others as you plan your weekend activities.
Be safe,
Linda Stump
Chief, University of Florida Police Department
