Aid-A-Gator

The Aid-a-Gator Program was implemented to offer support to colleagues experiencing a temporary financial hardship due to a catastrophic event such as the impact from a natural disaster or a public health emergency. This would not include lost wages. Aid-a-Gator’s ability to provide grants is entirely dependent on donations, as such awards are contingent on funding availability at the time of application.

Aid-a-Gator funds are intended to be a temporary life-preserver, not an income supplement or an alternative to insurance, FEMA or other types of public aid. Funds serve as a grant, not a loan requiring repayment. Under most circumstances, awards through Aid-a-Gator will be taxed as income.

Students

Undergraduate, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows who are experiencing financial hardship may visit the UF Office for Student Financial Affairs Aid-a-Gator website, call (352) 392-1275 or visit the office in S107 Criser Hall (9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday) for support.

Application Process

In accordance with its objective, the Aid-a-Gator application is activated when a natural disaster or public health emergency is declared, and will remain open for eligible employees to submit requests up to 8 weeks from the date of the event. Eligible employees include all University of Florida employees. Students, Graduate Assistants, and Fellows should apply through the student link above.

Aid-a-Gator applications and supporting documentation are reviewed and awarded by UF Human Resources to ensure privacy, consistency, access, and equity. The University of Florida has the right to make exceptions for any non-discriminatory reason, as the specific circumstances may warrant.

Attach documentation that is relevant to the specific financial need experienced as an unforeseen and temporary hardship. Employees must submit copies of bills, letters,  invoices, receipts, photographs of damage and proof of ownership of damaged items for those items to be considered for relief funds.
