TEAMS employees may be granted up to two days of administrative leave upon the death of an immediate family member as defined by the University of Florida. Sick leave may also be used in reasonable amounts for events related to the family member’s death. Academic Personnel with accrued sick leave may also use it for related events.
This type of administrative leave is approved by the department, and departments are generally obligated to provide this leave. Supervisors decide what constitutes “reasonable” use of sick leave in these situations. Departments may require employees to submit a copy of the death certificate or other appropriate documentation which will be kept in the department.
