Holidays

   Eligibility for Paid Holidays

Leave-accruing Academic Personnel and TEAMS employees are eligible for eleven paid holidays each year. Full-time employees earn eight hours of holiday pay as long as they are in pay status for a reasonable portion of their last regularly scheduled workday, as determined by their department, before the holiday. Part-time employees receive holiday time in proportion to their FTE.

Personnel receiving workers’ compensation salary indemnification payments are not entitled to holiday pay or special compensatory leave in conjunction with a holiday.

Holiday Closing Period and Personal Leave Days

Vacation-accruing Academic Personnel and TEAMS employees have four personal leave days per year (32 hours assuming full-time status) to be used during the December holiday closing period. Certain units on campus may have to remain open, determined on a unit-by-unit basis by a department’s vice president or designee.

Non-essential TEAMS employees and Academic Personnel must use the personal leave days in full-day increments during the December holiday closing period. Essential TEAMS and Academic Personnel employees can use their personal leave days in any increment from December 1 to the end of the fiscal year. The total hours for personal leave days in a workweek should not exceed the employee’s FTE.

Departments with OPS staff may adjust work schedules to allow OPS staff to make up work time as needed. OPS employees should report work hours to the state of Florida/People First biweekly, and time off during the holiday break may affect eligibility for health benefits.
