Benefits Costs

University employees have access to two types of premium plans: State plans and UFSelect plans.

Please note that no health benefit premiums will be deducted on the third paycheck in a month, only the first two. Two months per year have three paychecks.

For 9/10 month employees:

  • State plans and GatorGradCare will have double deductions collected from February through May to prepay for summer coverage through September.
  • GatorCare and regular UFSelect plans prepay for summer coverage by utilizing a 16-paycheck schedule with higher premiums.
  • For 9/10 month faculty who opt for the 12 month payment option, these prepayments will still take place. You will not see health benefit deductions during the summer months, only retirement contributions.

   State of Florida Plans

State plans offer comprehensive coverage for health, life insurance, vision, and dental needs.

Note: State benefits are prepaid by one month, meaning September deductions typically fund October coverage, etc. In correlation, state benefit plans remain active until the end of the month following an employee’s departure from UF.

   UFSelect Plans

UFSelect plans provide various options for health, dental, vision, long-term disability, term life, and legal support.

Note: UFSelect plans are not prepaid, and costs are deducted during the same month covered. Benefit plans remain active until the end of the month that an employee leaves UF.
